Mount Davis was an important British artillery depot during World War II. There are always rumor that people still see British or Japanese armies around there. It is one of the most haunted places in Hong Kong.
We started from Kennedy Town and then went up via Kennedy Town Fresh Water Service Reservoir this time. However, this uphill route isn't a regular trail. There is no proper sign along the uphill route. We mainly relied on the ribbons that tied up by other hikers. We nearly went into a wrong way as we were not paying much attention to the "signs". So, always look up on the trees for ribbon markers to ensure you are on the right way. This uphill route is quite rocky with uneven surface. There are also muddy paths, bushes, steep slopes...It is not advised to go if you are lack of hiking experiences, or you may consider to go via Mount Davis Path.
Length: Around 2km
Duration: 2 hours
Remarks: Remember to apply proper mosquito repellent. Protect the historical buildings on the hill. This uphill route is not suitable for beginners.
Start from Kennedy Town MTR station, go to the final stop of 12 minibus in Lung Wah Street next to Kwun Lung Lau. When you arrive the bus stop, you should able to see a stairway between Kwun Lung Lau and HKU student dorm. Go all the way up the staircases, that is the reservoir. Enter the reservoir, pass thru the basketball court inside, you will find another stairway in the side. Go up the stairway again till the end, keep left and look for the ribbons on trees.

Enter the bushes above the retaining wall. Beware of steep slope and high steps. There may be some ropes to help you up the slope, however, they are something built by hikers without regular and proper maintenance and might be already damaged, be careful at all time

After 3 bridges, you will reach the top in around 7 or 8 minustes.
That is the Mount High West
Along the uphill, sometimes we walked between bushes, and those trees and grasses may have blocked my vision. While I stepped out from the bush, I saw someone with a mask covered his whole face, hiding behind the grass and pointing me with his gun. I was frightened at first but then realized he was just a war game player. It was so hilarious that I though I had accidentally met a crime scene...
There are many historical military buildings on Mount Davis including battery, command headquarters, ammunition stores, accommodation buildings. The battery has been accorded with a Grade 2 status.
We saw some people practicing abseiling...may be?
There are 2 ways to Victoria Road,
Option 1: Walk along Mount Davis Path
Option 2: Follow the signs to go by staircases, the exit is the Island West Transfer Station
We chose the 2nd option this time, however, it seems very few people would go by staircases.
